Eclectica Projects is a leading furniture workshop and online store specialising in the creation of upcycled and reimagined Mid-Century, Art Deco, and vintage furniture in a uniquely artistic way.

Founded by Chris Martin-Smith, Eclectica Projects’ mission is clear: to preserve the history, characteristics and craftsmanship of vintage furniture, whilst fusing it with contemporary design themes to create exquisite pieces of usable art.

With a background in artistic studies at Central Saint Martins in London, book design, and songwriting, furniture is Chris’s canvas of choice for exploring his creativity. Based in North Yorkshire and serving clients both nationally and internationally, he works closely with private clients and interior designers to elevate tired vintage pieces into objects of desire, whilst focusing on sustainability through the use of eco-friendly materials and practices.

From hand-painted finishes using special artisan effects, to gilding, decoupage, lettering, and painted graphics, Chris uses skills developed over a decade of industry experience to produce to an extraordinary quality of craftsmanship with an unparalleled attention to detail. By drawing on a broad palette of colours and textures, Chris is adept at producing a range of contrasting finished styles; from eye-catching centrepieces in commanding colour-ways, decoupaged conversation pieces, to simple, classic restorations with distinctive, unique twists.

He offers an end-to-end commission service, from sourcing the perfect piece of furniture in need of refinishing to final delivery to your home or business, and incorporates a thorough design consultation process.

In your opinion, what makes a design timeless?

“The ability to excite those that behold it, regardless of sex, age, or background, and to provoke a jolt of joy and a curiosity to learn more about its origins, and the craftsmanship that prompted its creation. Design that transends fads and fashions and continues to enhance lifestyles for future generations.”

“I am excited by developments in all forms of art. I am culturally aware, soaking up inspiration from music, film, and fashion as well as areas that are more directly relevant to furniture design, such as architecture, product and interior design. I stay abreast of new products within the furniture refinishing world, and am keen to develop my skills through trial and experimentation.”
