Where to stay in Paris for 2025, from charming neighbourhoods to luxury shopping districts

The first hotel to open under the illustrious Maisons Pariente, Le Grand Mazarin is a perfect combination of old-school Parisian elegance and contemporary style. (With 24-hour room service and personal butlers, too, the newcomer is also a bonafide lap of luxury.) Just steps away from Paris' mayoral offices at the Hôtel de Ville in the hip Marais neighbourhood, the small boutique hotel has just 61 rooms, 11 of which being suites and the rest being tinier – but well-appointed – bedrooms, all designed by London-based designer, Martin Brudnizki. A large restaurant overlooking the hotel's calm courtyard is an emblem of true Parisian dining; the hotels two bars are certain to become classic watering holes for not just guests, but locals as well. Le Grand Mazarin also offers both a spa and a hammam – a true rarity for many of Paris' boutique hotels, making the hotel an ideal stay for those hoping to truly relax amidst their grand exploration of the city.

Those seeking a truly ‘Parisian’ experience on Paris' Right Bank must consider a stay at the five-star Pavillion de la Reine, located on the box tree-lined Place des Vosges. Expect impeccable service, lovely rooms by Didier Benderli and fabulous dining either in the hotel's leafy cobbled courtyard or Guide Michelin-calibre restaurant. The hotel's proximity to the chic and artsy Marais neighbourhood, too, is an underrated selling point.

The Hôtel des Grands Voyageurs, which opened last November in Quartier St-Placide on the Left Bank, has been designed by Fabrizio Casiraghi to feel more like the private home of a Parisian art collector than a hotel. The interiors feature a carefully curated collection of art from all over the world, including lithographs by Gustav Klimt and Marc Chagall, and sculptures by François Gilles. These pieces are complemented by ornate bespoke mirrors made by Osanna Visconti di Modrone. At the heart of the hotel is the Grands Voyageurs brasserie, which combines French and American culinary influences, and has a seafood-focused menu. Ranging from Classic Rooms to Junior Suites, the 138 bedrooms reflect the enduring charm and appealing elegance of the golden age of travel.

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood gets another lovely hotel in Le Grand Hôtel Cayré, Miiro's first of four new hotels (including Barcelona, London and Vienna). The roaring twenties-themed boutique stay in the trendy part of the 7th arrondissement is all about the neighbourhood feel. This is especially true in its beautiful restaurant, Annette, a traditional all-day brasserie serving a contemporary twist on French classics. Helmed by Bruno Brangea (the former head chef for Alain Ducasse), highlights during our stay included a pate en croute and fois gras, roasted duck fillet with honey, fennel and yellow peach alongside a large serving bowl filled with perfect fries that was incredibly comforting and more-ish. Breakfast here starts with a gorgeous selection of pastries and breads. Cocktail bar Officine Bac is a speakeasy inside a former officine (pharmaceutical dispensary).

The hotel's 123 rooms and two suites vary greatly in size and price, and it's one of the area's more affordable stays for those staying in the smaller rooms. Some Premium Rooms come with a small balcony with a table and a wonderful view of the Eiffel Tower – not what you get at every Paris hotel. The “world's first boutique hotel” and Oscar Wilde's final resting place, L'hôtel is one that is steeped in history. Tucked away in the beautiful 6e arrondissement, L'hôtel has been favourite to many a famous Francophile, including the likes of David Bowie, Salvador Dali and Princess Grace of Monaco. Overhauled by Jacques Garcia, the hotel's 20 rooms are as well-decorated as they are historic. Enjoy a drink at the bar, listen to live jazz or take a swim and a steam at the underground hammam-cum-pool; those frequently in Paris (lucky you!) can benefit from the hotel's membership offer for discounted rates and bespoke services, too.

As a visitor heading to Saint-Germain, you probably have a rather sophisticated itinerary planned: some browsing in the many beautiful interiors shops and galleries that populate the charming streets, perhaps a walk over the river to the Louvre, and some opulent dinners in the neighbourhood's wide variety of restaurants. For the stylish couples and solo travellers who might plan this kind of trip, Villa-des-Prés is everything you could want. The interiors are cool and scattered with art, so it feels like interiors reflect what is going on outside. It is a relatively small hotel, and while it has a bar and a breakfast area, there is no restaurant, so it assumes you'll be going out for dinner. On the other hand, there is a small and charming spa area, with a pool and sauna, and massages and other treatments on offer – perfect for winding down after a long day on the hoof. We can't think of many nicer places to spend a city break in the area.

The interior architecture and decoration of the rooms were done by Bruno Borrione, a designer long associated with Philippe Starck, who has created some very cool, retro public spaces, as well as airy yet colourful bedrooms that reference classic Parisian architecture while remaining very much of the moment. Shades of red and brown are a theme that run throughout, from the glossy paintwork of the bathrooms to the luxurious furniture of the bar downstairs. The art is a highlight, all specially commissioned from French artists for the hotel by Amélie du Chalard of nearby Amélie Maison d'Art (the gallery is well worth a visit in its own right). The hotel still feels a lot like what it used to be – an apartment building – and as you take up residence you feel you could be staying in a stylish Parisian's home. Unlike most real apartment buildings in this city, it has been extensively soundproofed and shockproofed so that you neither hear the traffic outside nor feel the vibrations of the Metro running underneath. – Virginia Clark

Following an extensive renovation by designer Raphael Navot, the 109-room Hôtel Dame Des Arts has opened its doors to an aesthetics-driven clientele. Bedrooms are well-appointed and reminiscent of a Nouvelle Vague films, with many accompanied by balconies overlooking Paris' iconic zinc rooftops, as well as the Eiffel Tower and Sacre-Cœur further in the distance. In the heart of the St-Germain-des-Près neighbourhood, the hotel is as well-located as one can be in Paris, within walking distance of the majority of the city's best museums, restaurants and parks. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can relax in the hotel's spa and sauna, or get a sweat in at the gym before heading to the rooftop for a drink and a nibble.

Recently renovated, the Hôtel Millesime is the ideal spot for both weekend-tripping couples and holidaying families alike. With plenty of galleries and antiques shops around, too, culture vultures will delight in a stay at the Millesime.

Hidden away on a side street in the chic Saint-Germain-des-Près neighbourhood is perhaps one of Paris' loveliest hidden gem of a hotel. With a lovely courtyard leading to sumptuous accommodations, the hotel is beautifully decorated, each room different from the next and scented by the famous French fragrance brand Diptyque. Timelessly elegant in its decoration and location, the Hôtel de l'Abbaye is ideal for mother-daughter trips or Francophile couples.

Centred between the Musée d'Orsay and the famous Café de Flore is the lovely, recently-opened boutique hotel, the Pavillon Faubourg Saint-Germain. Smartly decorated, the hotel's interiors are a lovely combination of Scandinavian modernity and Parisian elegance. Complete with relaxing spa, a lovely library host to hundreds of books written by Paris' most famous expats and a well-regarded restaurant and bar which attract as many locals as they do guests, the Pavillion is the ideal stay for those seeking a getaway to the literary capital of Paris. Families, too, will delight in the hotel's offering of Family Rooms – a rarity for Parisian hotels.

The only true five-star hotel on Paris' Left Bank, the Lutetia is veritable destination. Luxurious yet still modern, the “palace hotel” boasts a host of enviable suites, a great spa and a wonderful bar popular with Paris' trendy set (and one of our favourites in the city). A stone's throw away from the famous Bon Marché department store, too, the Hôtel is a shopper's paradise.

The Italian hotel group J.K. Place – known for its super-stylish hotels in Florence, Rome and Capri – planted its Parisian roots on the rue du Lille in the chic 7e arrondissement, hidden away behind discreet front doors. With just 29 bedrooms, guests will feel as if they are staying in a posh friend's gorgeous Paris mansion rather than a hotel. Most rooms have marble fireplaces, marble bathrooms and dressing areas; some are fitted with gigantic four-poster beds. Guests can read away an afternoon in one of the hotel's lovely wood-panelled reception rooms or enjoy an evening nightcap at the sumptuous bar, with nibbles from the hotel's restaurant.

It is almost a shame that Le Meurice – one of the two Dorchester Group-owned hotels in Paris – is located in the very heart of the city. So beautiful, well equipped and welcoming is the hotel that you hardly need to leave it. Nor would you want to. This was certainly how I felt when I visited: completely at home and without any urge to explore the neighbouring Louvre (just five minutes walk away), Jardin des Tuileries (opposite) or the Marais (a lovely 20 minute stroll through the city’s cobbled streets). The rooms - many of which have been recently renovated, strike the perfect balance between classic french and updated and comfortable – and now come complete with all of the mod-cons you could possibly need.

The hotel plays host to two exceptional restaurants: the more bistro-style Restaurant Le Dalí, whose name nods towards one of the hotel's most celebrated guests, and the two michelin-starred Restaurant le Meurice Alain Ducasse. Both guarantee you not just a delicious meal, but an experience too. It would be remiss not to order the edible sculptures made by resident pastry chef Cédric Grolet, which take the form of a piece of fruit or a nut, but are in fact a biscuit shell filled with moreish cream. In fact, better to order it on room service and enjoy it from the uninterrupted comfort of your room. A spa and library-cum-bar complete the offering at this most beautiful of spots, meaning it really would be tricky to pull yourself away, even for a trip to the Louvre (though the hotel can arrange for queue jump tickets to a number of the city's galleries and museums, so you needn't leave for long). - Christabel Chubb

The arrival of Château Voltaire last year saw the fruition of a personal project by Zadig & Voltaire founder Thierry Gillier. He enlisted the help of creative director Franck Durand to create a pied à terre-like hotel that embodies the understated elegance and quiet luxury Paris is known for, while steering away from the glitzier conventions common to upscale hotels. The building is comprised of 16th-, 17th- and 18th-century parts and was previously the headquarters of Zadig & Voltaire. As such, no two rooms are the same and each is distinct based on where it is in the building, but all decked out in the same earthy, quietly luxurious scheme. Downstairs, you'll find a small spa, which is bookable for private use, as well as a restaurant and bar that are destinations in their own rights.

A relative newcomer to Paris' hotel scene, the Madame Rêve Hotel is situated in the well-connected 1er arrondissement in the former hub for France's postal services, La Poste. With 82 beautifully-decorated rooms offering spectacular views of the Parisian skyline, an impressive rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city and chic restaurant overlooking a glittering Seine, the view's the thing at Madame Rêve. Guests can make use of a well-equipped gym, have access to an exceptional spa and order lovely (and very Parisian) room service, complete with miniature baguettes and fresh butter.

A softly-lit bolthole that whisks guests away from the shoppers traipsing down the famous Rue Saint Honoré in Paris' 1er arrondissement, Le Roch Hotel & Spa is a true Parisian oasis. Paris-based Orso Hôtels opened seven hotels between 2019 and 2022, providing intimate, locally rooted stays in the lesser-known neighbourhoods. The most buzzy is Hôtel Rochechouart, which opened in the thick of the pandemic in May 2020 and quickly became a go-to destination for its large corner bistro, rooftop bar and epic views of the Sacré-Coeur. Those seeking adventure and a more authentic (but still chic) experience of Paris' rather trendy but still boho neighbourhood, Montmartre must give it a visit. Those also seeking a more affordable option in a discernibly expensive city will love the hotel's modest price point. Recently revitalised by interior design specialists Festen, the hotel is modern whilst calling back to the building's Art Deco history. Minutes away from both the Basilique Sacré-Cœur and Moulin Rouge, too, the hotel is perfect for getting to know the capital's northern landmarks. With one of Paris' best rooftop bars, too, the Hotel Rochechouart is the perfect landing place for the hipster crowd who enjoy a well-made drink or two.

For her first foray into hotel design, Beata Heuman was tapped by the Touriste group to design Hôtel de la Boétie, a 40-room hotel in the wide, tree-lined streets surrounding the Champs-Elysées. The design is timeless and smart, with lots of colour and comfort, as well as natural materials chosen for their ability to patina with grace. Beata has brought her discerning eye for timeless design to the interiors, using lots of natural materials and solid wood, which will age gracefully and develop a beautiful patina over time Its USP? It is that very rare gem of a reasonably priced hotel with excellent design and no corners cut, as well as being centrally located. In short, you can't fault it. What's more, the shower amenities are all Diptyque – a chic touch.

In the heart of Paris' Faubourg de Montmartre in northern Paris is the idyllic Hôtel La Fantasie. Hôtel Bienvenue is perfectly located for arts lovers and culture vultures. Offering some of the most affordable (and smallest!) rooms on this list, the Hôtel Bienvenue is ideal for solo travellers or those seeking simple (though still lovely) accommodation.

Whilst Londoners are probably acquainted with The Hoxton hotel group by now, even the most seasoned Hoxton-goers will be in awe of the group's Paris location. With 172 rooms, the hotel offers a vast range of room for every traveller, from über-teeny to downright gigantic. In the morning, guests can enjoy cappuccinos in the courtyard, followed by chilled glasses of wine during apéro hour. The hotel has become quite a destination for Parisians, so don't be surprised to bump into a few Frenchies ‘WFH’ (working-from-Hoxton) during your stay.
